Why Americas Cornerstones Honors Working Professionals

Americas Cornerstones started with a simple observation. The people who hold a community together are usually the least likely to talk about it. These professionals work their career with little to no recognition compared to other more visible careers.

Americas Cornerstones was created to honor the teacher who stays until the concept clicks. The dispatcher who keeps a steady voice while someone on the other end of the line is having the worst day of their life. The electrician who makes a building safe and never gets a mention. The nurse who is on their feet for a twelve-hour shift and then comes back the next day. These are just a few of the hundreds of careers that make America function daily. The work of so many under-recognized careers is essential, constant, stressful, and are part of the symbolic cornerstones that keep the towns, cities, states, and nation operating each day.

The gap we set out to fill

When we looked for apparel that represented those professions, we kept finding two versions: One was cheap quality merchandise with a slogan or joke slapped on it, the kind of thing that falls apart after a few washes and says nothing specific. The other was apparel with images that turned a job into a statement, loud graphics and language built to provoke a reaction.

These types of merchandise did not match the people we had in mind: The professionals that we grew up around were trusted, respected, and quietly central to the people near them. They did not perform their work. They just did their job daily and often with little to no appreciation from their customers, students, family members, or co-workers.

We set out to fill the gap by providing quality apparel with positive messages that recognizes the value so many professionals add to the country every day. We set out to provide professionals, customers, families, students, and others with products that they can purchase and wear with confidence. Products that bring appreciation and honor to the many cornerstone professions that keep everything running. Products that could be purchased by the professional, by family members as gifts, or even by companies to show their profession's contribution to society.

What profession-specific actually means

Americas Cornerstones designs are created around professions and words or phrases related to it. Not a category, not a vague nod to essential workers, but a single job and language that someone in that job would recognize as true. A machinist design reads differently from a paramedic design because the work is different and the pride in it is different. Some designs are meant to be text only to quietly convey its message. Other designs may include an image and text.

The placement of the designs is deliberate too. On the Standard Tee, the graphic is purposely placed on the back so the people around you see it as you go about your day. There is no announcement, no front-and-center demand for attention. The Statement Tee adds an embroidered 'Americas Cornerstones' to the front left chest and also has a graphic on the back that can be seen and read by others. The designs represent the selected profession and its value to society.

Service. Duty. Honor.

These words represent three common values that Americas Cornerstones professions embody. Service is the work performed by the professional. Duty is showing up for the work even when it would be easier not to. Honor is doing the work properly and professionally whether or not anyone is watching. Americas Cornerstones designs and products are intentionally meant to bring honor to the careers and professionals that have similar values of Service, Duty, and Honor. Americas Cornerstones graphic messages are designed to be positive and not become simple jokes, slogans or be political. The good work of cornerstone careers and professionals speaks for itself, and it speaks to everyone.
